Bravo, Chelsea!! My Slutfest was also in 2004, although I think it lasted a bit longer than yours. I envy your eloquence in describing it. I too, would only give back a few encounters in that year. For the most part, it was a liberating and incredibly educational period. I learned more about myself and my needs than in the 15 years of marriage preceding it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading of your moment.

Hell of a recap. I dug the bouncy flow of it...like memories tendto do.

CG - as usual a great piece. Would love to see the other version but this one is fabulous. I really liked the rythmn and flow of it. It is good to see you flourish in your writing again!

Chelsea,

Thanks so much for sharing. I've been following you on twitter and can relate very much to where you are right now. Can also relate to this story. I had my own internet sex experiences and wrote a book about it. Am looking for a publisher now. I found you through Susie Bright's podcast and think you talked about trying to publish your blog as a collection. Whatever happened with that?

went through a similar 2004 summer with my wife..she had the girlfriend, tried a new male lover, endless nights at the bar in exchange for late night sex, chatted online with swinging couples and bull men...had the FFM and the MFM, visited a swingers club (the best evening of all)...and then just as suddenly she had her fill and wanted to stop. couldn't handle the mental distraction and separation. It was great for the sex life bad for the love life. Now occasionally we fuck or masturbate while talking about those crazy months. Thanks for the reminder of having anal while she makes out on a bed of rose petals with her bff. wow was their something in the air that summer?

Every paragraph you wrote could be a short story...if you tried speaking from a 1st person to a 3rd person perspective you might feel freer with the details...and sometimes you could be the boy...take it easy!

There must've been something in the air that summer, as Frank suggested. Perhaps that was the summer that fully opened the bloom of social networking sites, as it was also a pretty slutty time of my life as well. Many of the trysts were owed to MySpace, I had more one night stands than extended runs, and eventually I reached the same conclusion as Chelsea: that lots and lots of sex was out there but the more I had the lonelier I became. If a girl wanted to see me again I got all squirmy and nervous, when I got the brush off I got all sad and listened to Cursive and the Umbrellas.

Finally I met a girl at a midnight movie... she was wearing silver boyshorts and fishnets, heavy eyeliner and full, black painted lips. I fell in love, she freaked out, I moved on, got my heart broken again, crawled back to her for some sort of clarity and she provided it in the form of facemelting welcome-back sex. We've been together about a year in undoubtedly the healthiest relationship I've ever been in and I can't help but think the foundation for it was laid in the summer of '04, when I learned that the really, really, really good sex happens with someone you actually care about.

Something I already knew I suppose, but it took the Summer of Slutishness to drive the point home.

Great work, as always. I'm noticing that your posting pace has slowed recently. Are you working on some offline projects we should know about, or is it all copy writing as you said in the post a little ways down?

Chelsea, girlfriend, yes. Yes! I almost laughed out loud in recognition, having staged my own internet-abetted Slutfest in the summer of 2006. The encounters whose "excruciating pointlessness" was outweighed by their novelty by only the slimmest of margins -- yes! The Master of the Universe I snagged was more paranoid than sociopathic. The doms, as you note, were a mixed bag. But there were nice guys, and hot guys, and a girl whose kitty tasted like strawberries, I swear. As for there being a lot of lawyers: I was the lawyer. Thank you for putting it all into words with such accuracy and economy and humor.

I haven't spelunked my vaginal depths in a while. Thanks for reminding me. I'm putting it on my to-do list right now. Please god, don't let there be an echo..cho...cho
