I believe in equality under the law with a white-hot, extra-flamey passion. I believe that as an adult you have the right no matter your gender, race, creed, ethnicity, or sexual preference to marry the adult person of your choice. Everyone should have a right to rice, toasters, toasting, white weddings, flower girls, chuppahs, brooms, broomsticks, cornbread, red wedding dresses, tuxedos, cummerbunds, kilts, tea ceremonies, chair dancing, marigolds, cake-cutting, garter-throwing and, what may be the greatest American wedding tradition, divorce.
In light of my belief in the right of every adult to marry the person of his or her choice, I want to extend to everyone who still reads this blog and shares my ideas of equal rights the opportunity on November 15 to protest the recent passing of three anti-marriage bills in the city of their choice. Personally, I choose New York City, the greatest city in the world, but you have many other options. Go to the website Join the Impact for details for other, lesser, cities, and go to 260 Broadway by or around 1:30 this Saturday, November 14 if you're here in Gotham.
If you're going to the big meetup in New York, look for my friend Tom, who married his partner this summer in Hell-A. He's carrying a sign that reads, "When do I get to vote on your marriage?" I think that would be what they call a rhetorical question. Also feel free to congratulate the happy couple who still are imbued with that new-marriage smell.
And just because I had erotic dreams all election night about Keith Olbermann, and because it's on topic, let me close with this fabulous invective.

this. and it's nice to read your thoughts again [you're kind of really inspirational].

Great post Chelsea. I loved the Keith Olberman rant. How wonderful. How eloquent. And inspiring. Friggin hell, I hope you guys sort this issue out. Because sadly, if the US doesn't, I believe countries like Australia never will...

Here in the Great White North, same-sex marriage has been the law of the land for awhile now. The other day Mini (my 12 yr old) and I were in the car and we listened to an item on the radio about this item and he could simply not wrap his mind around why anyone would care who someone eles marries. What difference does it make to them? He asked me. I didn't have an answer for him.
Thanks for sharing this.
We miss you.

Oh Chelsea, it's so glad to see you back, even if just once in a while.

I hope they get it sorted out quickly either way, this has become a big joke. Both sides like like idiots on this one.

CG,
Glad to hear from you! I as well loved the Keith O special comment. I saw it live as I watch him almost every week night. I believe that all people should have equal rights and the "gays" are no exception.

Thank you for posting this! I don't have TV but this impassioned, eloquent comment makes me love Keith Olbermann.

Bravo, Chelsea. Maximo Bravo, Keith. I have never understood by what right one person seeks to impose his wishes on his fellow but history is rife with it. Perhaps it is the suppression of honest desires within oneself that causes a perverted desire to suppress others.
