I need a new musical drug. I have, like, totally, 3,456 songs on my iTunes and, like, a whole wall of discs. And I can't find anything I want to hear.
Won't you help a sister out?
What can you suggest to bring this little audioslut out of her not-so-funky funk?
I'm begging you; friends don't let friends listen to The Darkness.
Cheers,
CG

Look at my audioscrobbler page for the music i listen to.
Or as a random artist, U2 or The Who are always good :)

Try
- Ry Cooder's Chicken Skin Music
- David Lindley's El Rayo-X
- Lowell George's original Little Feat album
or, of course,
- any of the bawdy and restless songs I've made up but never bothered to record. (A perennial problem with closeted live musicians.)

The new Transplants disc.
Anything from The Black Keys...but especially "Thick Freakness".

Cat Daddy,
I, of course, already have tons of The Black Keys...as if! But I shall check out the Transplants.
And Fig, thanks for reminding me of artists I hadn't thought of in a while.
And, gosh, Caius, aren't you a bit young to be listening to such fogsters? Tsk, tsk, what is wrong with the youth of today?

Who is Caius Durling and where did he get his lovely name?
Your musical tastes are much cooler than mine, Chelsea. My fav new young band are The Avett Brothers--rockabilly at its best.

Ed, I had no idea you were quite so rockin'...you are an interesting mix, indeed. I am a huge fan of that arcade fire disc, and while system of a down has never quite touched me in the good hot spots, I'm willing to try again; the dears are new to me, thanks.
And my dear purple jesus, phat pal,I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE soul coughing and, indeed, Mike Doughty's solo work as well. I will follow your other suggestions, bien sur, parce que je suis ta esclave.

Ever try a little Gomez?
Also, whenever I'm out of things to listen to, I just go back and listen to some Cake. Definitely one of my all-time favorite groups.
If trance is your thing, Mouse On Mars will set you free.
On the lighter side, try some Keller Williams.

We got a subscription to Napster for 10 measely bucks a month. Now we can be unashamed music whores, sampling, tasting, denying, loving all those tunes. Money well spent, although they don't have a single Led Zepplin tune. Bastards.

Well, it helps having a 15 year old son! :)
I'm a big fan of SOAD. I love the eclectism of their music, the way that they are going hell for leather one minute and quietly and sweetly the next. Mezmerize is a bit mellower than the previous albums. Had the pleasure of seeing them live at the Leeds Festival in 2003.
Some samplers for The Dears (please right click and save - note these are big files - up to 10Mb):
We can have it
No cities left
The death of all romance
Not sure I agree with the sentiment of the last one, but it's still a great song. (IMO)
Another band I have a feeling you might like is The Bees.

I have a major thing these days for Clor (Love+Pain), also Arctic Monkeys ("Fake Tales of San Fransisco") and Oranger ("Radio Waves"). Clor and Oranger you'll find on Scenestars. They're the best mp3 blog around, bar none, and have enticed me to buy far too many CDs of late.
